In 2018, the San Francisco Chronicle commissioned a story from me on the history and evolving scene of guitar-making in California, and I got to visit some legendary makers like Santa Cruz Guitar Co. and learn from some of the true masters. In print, this article was titled “In the Land of the Luthiers,” online it was titled “California Guitar Makers are Going Green,” underscoring the point that writers don’t get to pick their own headlines in newspapers — but I’ll accept any headline for the experience I had researching and writing this story.
