In 2014, Vine, Twitter’s short-form video app, was just starting to gain some momentum. That didn’t last, sadly – but at the time, there was a community of really creative people using Vine to do things the developers never even knew Vine could do.
In my first major campaign at Airbnb, we wondered if it would be possible to make a movie made entirely of individual vines. The vines would be crowdsourced, and, most importantly, the movie had to make sense.
Over five days, we posted directions on Twitter, like we were directing a move from a distance. “If you’re listening, go out and get a short video of a paper airplane flying from left to right.”
We truly didn’t know what the results would be. With entries from around the globe (can you spot Kuwait?), here is the end result:
